Optimization of IT Organization

After a successful reorganization of the client’s IT, an IT snapshot was created to assess the current state of the IT organization and derive strategic areas for further optimization. In an iterative, qualitative-analytical approach, interviews with management and stakeholders, as well as workshops, were conducted. The analysis led to a structured derivation of measures focused on platform organization, business enablement, and fostering innovation. Challenges included the transformation of governance structures and the implementation of a long-term IT strategy. Through targeted actions, IT performance and stakeholder satisfaction have already been improved, but further steps are required to sustainably professionalize the IT organization and enhance its innovation capabilities.

Client Situation

After a comprehensive reorganization, the client’s IT aimed to continuously optimize its governance, organization, and service delivery. The last IT snapshot was created in 2022 and needed to be updated to analyze the current development status of IT, validate strategic measures, and derive new areas of action.

Solution Approach

Over the course of five weeks, a qualitative analysis was conducted to assess the IT organization and develop a strategic roadmap. Following a kick-off workshop with the executive team, management interviews and stakeholder surveys were carried out. The insights gained were used to identify and prioritize strategic areas of action in workshops. The results were then presented, and a high-level implementation plan was created. Key areas of action included platform organization, business enablement, and fostering innovation. Important measures included optimizing the IT architecture, improving IT-business interaction, and implementing a structured innovation management process.

Effective IT sustainability needs structure and stakeholder support

The transformation of the client’s IT organization was a bold and correct step to sustainably improve IT performance. However, the implementation of a clear governance and decision-making structure remains a challenge. Close collaboration with stakeholders was particularly important to ensure long-term acceptance and implementation of the strategic measures. The targeted empowerment of IT employees, as well as a systematic approach to fostering innovation, will be crucial to position the client’s IT for the future.
